Heats On 2008 was held Saturday, October 11th. Once again, it was a huge success! Thanks to all the volunteer pipefitters and mechanical contractors who made this day possible.

2nd Annual Tug-O-War Contest a Huge Success

The 2nd annual tug-o-war contest held Sat, Sept 27th at Forest Park was a huge success. An estimated 3,500 people attended. Over $20,000 was raised for the Shriners!

In addition to the "main event", there were games, booths and face painting for the kids, a dunking tank, and lots of food for all.

Thanks to the many corporate sponsors for their support. A special thanks to Tri-County and Rockwood Labor Clubs' members for all their hard work in organizing this great event!

Christmas Food Drive

Bob Howell Fundraiser

A kick-off fundraiser will be held for Bob Howell on Thursday, Nov 13th at Christy Banquet Center 9000 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, O'Fallon. Bob is running for the O'Fallon City Council 4th Ward.

Terry Flynn Retirement Party

Terry Flynn's retirement party was held Nov 14th at Maggie O'Briens. A dinner was held Sat, Nov 15th with family, co-workers, and friends.

Free Flu Shots Available

Patrick Hickey Memorial Golf Tournament 2008

The 2008 memorial golf tournament was held September 27th at Emerald Greens. A great day shared with family and Local 562 members was a great tribute to our late brother, Pat Hickey. Over $2,000 was donated to the Ronald McDonald House in his memory.

The Championship team was Mike Mohan, Mike Notter, Roger Arbuthnot, Jr. and Dan Maupin. Kevin Kelly's team won the A Flight. The B flight was won by Tim Green's team.

Local 562 Launches New Web Presence

Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562 officially launched their online presence in September 2008. The public portion of the website is available for viewing at this time.

Local 562 is excited to share their message with the world, as well as to provide their membership with convenient and up-to-the-minute information. Currently, the web site features current construction projects of Local 562, information about the union’s history, introduction to their state of the art training center, and information on continuing education and community involvement.

The "Members Only" portion of the website for Local 562 is being created and refined for future use. This portion of the site will be secure via individual password for members of Local 562 only. The general public will NOT be privileged to this information.

This section's main page will feature timely announcements pertaining to the Union Hall, Health & Welfare, and the Training Center. Upcoming events pertaining to our Local members will also be found here.

InBev/Anheuser-Busch Rally

On Saturday, August 16th, an estimated 200+ members of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562 showed their support for union Anheuser-Busch employees by attending the Teamsters rally at St. Louis Kiener Plaza. Their main message to InBev was "Keep Your Promises."

Labor leaders and other public officials from St. Louis, Canada, Belgium and Brazil attended and spoke at this event to show solidarity for fellow union workers. They all called on InBev to honor their public commitments assuring support for union workers and retirees during upcoming negotiations on new contracts.


Plumbing Industry Council Scholarship Winners

On August 5, 2008, the 2008 P.I.C. scholarships were presented to Bridget Laughlin (Laughlin Plumbing) and Mary Beth Navo (labor recipient). Each year, the Plumbing Industry Council presents two scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated superior academics and community involvement during their high school years.

The award is open to the sons/daughters of any Plumbing Industry council member. One scholarship is given on the management side and one on the labor side. An independent panel of judges chooses the winners each year.

Arc Flash Training

The St. Louis Training Center held an Arc Flash training session on July 14th. About 25 students were in attendance, and the training was conducted by Integrated Safety and Utility.

Even though our schools are usually closed for the summer months, Arc Flash training was a necessity to keep our members safe on the job.

Local 562 Awarded a Blue Ribbon

On July 6, 2008, members of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562 participated in the parade, which kicked off the Lincoln County Fair. Local 562 was awarded a blue ribbon for float creativity.

Plumbers and Pipefitters are committed to being active within the communities they serve throughout Eastern Missouri.

Mechanical Contractor Scholarship Awards

On June 18, 2008, the Mechanical Contractors Association presented their 2008 scholarships. The Management winner was Kevin Haberberger, son of Neil and Cindy Haberberger (Haberberger, Inc.) The two labor recipients were Mitchell Pilliard, son of Tom and Jeannie Pilliard, and Blake Welschmeyer, son of Daryl and Melody Welschmeyer.
